livetorow: For those of you who don’t know, this is Mahe Drysdale. He is the New Zealand single sculler and a five-times world champion. This photo was taken after the final at the Beijing Olympics. He had a severe gastrointestinal infection and lost 5kg in the 4 days leading up to this final and after the race he was lifted out of his boat and carried, vomitting to a waiting ambulance. Despite all this, he was still able to pull out a spectacular race and win bronze. I have a lot of respect for this amazing athlete and I really hope he can win this year :)
